Pluck of cub leader

Brave mum tackles bloodied fanatic

Brave ... Ingrid Loyau-Kennett confronts terrorist as body of soldier lies dead in road

THE brave woman leader of a cub pack who challenged one of the Woolwich terrorists said today: "I wasn't scared. Rather me than a child."

Selfless mother-of-two Ingrid Loyau-Kennett told last night how she desperately tried to keep the cleaver maniac talking so he would not butcher anyone else.

She had spotted the victim of the two fanatics from a passing No53 bus — and leapt off to try to help him.
Ingrid, 48, from Cornwall, said: “Being a cub leader I have my first aid — so when I saw this guy on the floor I thought it was an accident.”

She dashed to check his pulse — not realising his crazed killers were standing just feet away near where they had crashed their car running him down.
Blonde Ingrid — captured in mobile phone footage courageously standing up to the fanatics — said grimly: “I saw the guy was dead.”

It was then that she suddenly realised one of the men nearby had a revolver and a kitchen knife — and was dripping with blood.
He chillingly told her: “We want to start a war in London tonight.”
She replied “You’re going to lose. It’s only you versus many.”

Shaken Ingrid said: “He had what looked like butcher’s tools — a little axe, to cut the bones, and two large knives. He said: “Move off the body.”
"So I thought: “OK, I don’t know what is going on here.” He was covered with blood.
"I thought I had better start talking to him before he starts attacking somebody else. I thought these people usually have a message so I said: “What do you want?”

"I asked him if he did it and he said: “Yes.” I asked why and he said: “Because he has killed Muslim people in Muslim countries.”
"He said: “He was a British soldier.” I said: ‘Really?’ And he said: “I killed him because he killed Muslims and I am fed up with people killing Muslims in Afghanistan.”.”
MEMBERS of the public talk about what happened when the police arrived
At that point the two butchers were lording it in the street after almost decapitating their victim in Woolwich, South East London.
Crowds had steadily gathered — with many onlookers oblivious to the peril they were in.
Ingrid was terrified the fanatics — pumped up on adrenalin — would go berserk again before the armed cops they were waiting for arrived.

She said of the one who had spoken to her: “I started to talk to him and I started to notice more weapons — and the guy behind him with more weapons as well.
“By then, people had started to gather around.
“So I thought. ‘OK, I should keep him talking to me before he notices everything around him’.”

MAYOR of London say it's a 'sickening, deluded and unforgivable act of violence'
Describing her daring tactic, she told how she carefully tried to assess his mental state.
Ingrid said: "He was not high, he was not on drugs. He was not an alcoholic or drunk. He was just distressed, upset.
"He was in full control of his decisions and ready to do everything he wanted to do.
"I said: “Right now it is only you versus many people. You are going to lose, what would you like to do?”
"He said: “I would like to stay and fight.””
Asked if she was scared, the woman replied: “No - better me than a child.
“Unfortunately there were more and more mothers with children stopping around, so it was even more important I was talking to him and ask him what he wanted.”

PRIME Minister says Britain will 'never buckle' in the face of terrorism
One of the terrorists was last night said to have been a street preacher who was spotted “ranting” outside Poundland in Woolwich town centre a week earlier.
Resident Susan France, 52, said of the cleaver maniac who was wearing a black bobble hat: “When I saw the news, I just thought, ‘Oh my God, I’ve seen him before.
“You know when you have one of those moments when your brain has taken a mental photograph and it flashed back, it was like that.

“I’m sure he’s a preacher who I’d walked past last week in Woolwich town centre.
“I think it was Thursday, either this Thursday or the one before.”
She recalled: “I was walking down the High Street when that preacher caught my eye.
“I think I remembered him because of his age — he looked so young to be out and to be preaching, especially the way that he was.

“He was ranting really aggressively. It was a bit weird, to be honest, That’s why I turned to look at him.
“After I walked past, I didn’t think about him again until I saw that video on the news — then it came back to me.
“I instantly thought, ‘That’s him’. He was standing outside the Poundland shop on Powis Street in Woolwich.”

Do not let extremists divide us

“DON’T jump to conclusions” is always good advice.
Yesterday’s brutal murder seems to be terrorism. Eyewitness accounts of the killing and the murderers’ rants suggest that religious extremism has come to Britain’s streets.
Until now, plots to carry out spectacular atrocities like blowing up several planes at once have been frustrated by the police. But stopping a couple of extremists hacking at a passer-by is more difficult.
Baffling as it is, fanatics want to promote tension between Muslim migrants and the rest of us.
Ever since 9/11, those radical fanatics have tried to stir up the vast silent majority of British Muslims to support their cause.
They have failed miserably.
If the murderers came from Somalia and Mali — where Britain and its NATO allies have been suppressing fundamentalists — there could be an international element.
But the hope will be to poison relations with refugees from Somalia and Mali living here.
Now the terrorists must be hoping that indignant ordinary Brits will pick on local Muslims.
Yesterday’s atrocity was insanity. The rest of us must not react according to the killers’ logic.

This is an attack on Islam too

THE scene was like something from a horror movie. Two men in broad daylight hacked at a man until he was in pieces and calmly waited for police to arrive.
I imagined it was a random attack by two clearly mentally unstable men. What other explanation for this barbarism?
But then my blood ran cold. We heard the victim was a soldier who happened to be wearing a Help for Heroes top.
There was speculation they said “Allahu Akbar” before the attack.
“Allahu Akbar” means “God is great” and is uttered by Muslims during prayers or when you need comfort during times of distress.
If they were really Muslims then my heart bleeds.
Believe it or not, in Islam there are strict rules about warfare — you cannot even chop down a TREE in a battle let alone chop down a human being.
There is NO justification for this horrific crime in Islam and unfortunately this act of barbarism will have horrific consequences.
It will fuel more hatred and misunderstanding of Muslims.
I cannot believe these attackers are sane. They have not just butchered a human being, they are also butchering the name of Islam.
