TWO Rolf Harris shows were axed from TV yesterday after The Sun revealed he had been arrested on suspicion of sex offences.
Bosses ditched them after the Aussie entertainer, 83, was named as the celebrity who had been twice quizzed by Operation Yewtree detectives.
Didgeridoo-playing Harris, who performed for the Queen at last year’s Diamond Jubilee concert on BBC1, had been fronting Rolf’s Animal Clinic and narrated kids’ series Olive the Ostrich, both on Channel 5.
More than a million viewers tuned in to his animal show on Wednesday night — unaware he had been arrested on March 28.
But a Channel 5 spokesman said yesterday: “While this legal matter involving Rolf Harris is ongoing we have removed Olive the Ostrich and repeats of Rolf’s Animal Clinic from the schedule.”
Kids’ channel Nickelodeon, which also screens Olive the Ostrich, also decided to shelve the programme.
And a theatre date for Harris’ one-man show hung in the balance as bosses at Bristol Hippodrome claimed that it “may” be cancelled after news of his arrest.
Around 1,500 tickets for the appearance have been sold. Yesterday Harris, first interviewed last November over the historic allegations, answered the intercom to reporters at his Berkshire home.
Asked about the accusations he said only: “No comment.”
It is understood the veteran star vehemently denies any wrongdoing.
Today it can be revealed lawyers for Harris threatened to sue The Sun and other mainstream media if they reported he had been arrested.
