Police hunt man who 'tried to pull hijab off Muslim Tube passenger and punched her in vicious attack'

Investigating: Police are looking for the man in this picture after an alleged hate crime at Baker Street station 

Police are hunting a man accused of trying to pull a young Muslim woman's hijab off before hitting her and spitting at her friend in a vicious attack.

The woman was waiting for the Tube at Baker Street station in the early hours of Saturday morning when the incident happened.   

British Transport Police say they are investigating a hate crime after they were contacted the victim shortly after the alleged attack.

Aniso Abulkadir posted about the ordeal on Twitter, alongside a picture of the suspect.  

The series of Tweets have since gone viral with more than 21,000 retweeting the image.   

In the post, Aniso Abdulkadir wrote: 'This man at Baker Street station forcefully attempted to pull my hijab off and when I instinctively grabbed ahold of my scarf he hit me.' 

She posted: 'He proceeded to verbally abuse my friends and I, pinning one of them against the wall and spitting in her face. 

'The woman was throwing out threats and was also verbally abusive.'

A spokesman for the police confirmed they received a report of a hate crime shortly after the alleged incident happened. 

He said: 'Behaviour like this is totally unacceptable and will not be tolerated. This incident has been reported to is and we're investigating.'

The woman accused of verbal assault is described as black and around 5"10 while the man is white and around 6"2. 

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police.   

A friend who appeared to have been with Miss Abdulkadir at the time of the alleged attack also took to Twitter to urge the public to find pair.

She said: 'These two at Baker Street station were racially abusive, the man tried to pull my friends headscarf off and pushed me against a wall, find them.'

Writing on the social media platform, she described how there were up to 30 people on the platform who looked on but did nothing.

She said: 'Racism is a real thing people choose to ignore, we really do live in a pathetic society where people are all talk and completely useless

'I'd just like to take a moment to emphasise on my disgust on the people who witnessed a grown man pull an 18 year olds hijab and remain silent. 

'Believe me, there were more than 20 to 30 people and not a single person helped. People just watched and filmed, ****** pathetic.'

Viral: The response to Miss Abdulkadir's tweet has been huge as thousands shared the post to help police track down the suspects
