A TANZANIAN based telecommunications executive , Norman Moyo , CEO of Helios Towers
Tanzania launched his first leadership book
called Rumble in the Jungle , Leadership from an African perspective .
The launch which was attended by more than 300 of some of the top corporate and
civic leaders in Tanzania was officiated by the Minister of Communications ,
Science and Telecommunications .
In his
remarks the minister thanked Mr Moyo for being a bold and exemplary business
leader who has taken this unchanted route of sharing his Pan African experience
with other leaders .
He further highlighted commented that “the challenges of
leadership in corporate , social and public institutions across the continent
is a subject of great debate at many different forums regionally and globally .
The call for good leadership is a call which has been getting louder and louder
by the day here in Tanzania and across the continent . I am very encouraged to
see a new crop of Pan African business leaders beginning
to engage in being part of their destiny”.
The minister
went on to read a quote from His Excellency former President Benjamin Mkapa , who
sent a congratulatory letter to Mr Moyo after reading his leadership book .
Mr
Mkapa wrote “There is a lot of talk at
African Leaders meetings and academic forums about the Africa we want in the
next fifty years.
Little is however described, let alone published, about HOW
we are to get there. Indeed there is little exposition about the obstacles on
the way forward. Your book strives to fill this important gap.”
“I have
appreciated it in particular because it has identified the one factor holding
back African development and transformation, namely LEADERSHIP.
There is a
crying need on all African development fronts for a transformative Leadership –
leadership with Conviction ,Vision, Mission and Driving Capacity.”
Speaking
also at the book launch at Hyatt , Former Tanzanian Ambassador to the United
States , Ambassador Mwanaidi Maarjar, congratulated Mr Moyo and highlighted
that “This event
for me marks the birth of a new idea, a renaissance, a new chapter in the Pan
African agenda.
Your corporate journey across all the 4 corners of the
continent, starting in Southern, West, Central, North and East Africa has
exposed you to a very unique view of the continent very few of us has seen.
But
most importantly it seems to have been a great source of inspiration for you
particularly the untapped potential the continent possess.
I can not over agree
with you that the number one biggest economic driver for this continent is not
its oil, gas, gold, diamonds but LEADERSHIP.
This is not a new idea to any of
us here but you have simply taken the conversation out of the intellectual
realm of debates , and endless 50 year programs with realist and proven
execution strategy.”
The book is
targeted to be marketed across the whole continent and reputed to create a new
set of conversations in the continent. It is primarily targeting middle to senior
managers in corporates and also senior civil servants , ministers and
presidents across the continent.
The launch was followed by an unprecedented
purchase of the books including
personalized autographs by the author
. A number of CEOs purchased books for
their organisations after a moving speech from the author himself.
