Iran's former president, Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, has registered to run for the presidency in elections next month.
A BBC correspondent says the Lord Rafsanjani is a leading opponent of extremists who are close to Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Chief mediator in talks on the
nuclear program of Iran, Saeed Jalili, has proposed to his name,
too.
The presidential candidates are filtered and special councils, Guardians Council, before being allowed to stand in elections
