Lookalike ... Stephen Mantle dressed up as icon for a laugh
TEMPLE Bar revellers thought it was a Mission: Impossible when they spotted TOM CRUISE enjoying a night on the tiles.
Drinkers at The Auld Dubliner pub might have been tempted to shout “Show me the money!” when they thought they saw the Jerry Maguire legend.
But ‘Tom’ turned out to be Stephen Mantle, who dressed up like the acting icon for a laugh over the weekend.
He told the Irish Sun: “I’ve been getting this Tom Cruise lookalike stuff always so thought I’d share it for a laugh!”
But the real Tom Cruise is set to discover his secret Irish roots today after jetting in last night.
The Hollywood legend is getting ready for a whirlwind 24-hour tour to promote his new movie, Oblivion, alongside co-stars Andrea Riseborough and Olga Kurylenko.
Cruise, 50, is set to receive a certificate of Irish ancestry from the Department of Foreign Affairs, where he will learn all about his Dublin and Roscommon roots.
The actor will be brought to the secret presentation in St Stephen’s Green from his Merrion Hotel base today, where he will be given a crash course on his family’s links.
A source said: “He’ll be presented with a certificate and given a quick history briefing.
“He’s a big history fan and is apparently very excited about discovering all about his roots here.”
Cruise, who was born Tom Cruise Mapother IV, has ancestry in Kilteevan, Co Roscommon, and in Dublin through both the Mapother and Cruise families.
The Gathering has commissioned genealogical research which will demonstrate Cruise’s Irish connection definitively.
