But one man decided that sometimes it's best to be selfish as he sat and watched his girlfriend fall off a cliff.
The woman desperately tried to grab her boyfriend's leg in an attempt to save herself but the quick-thinking male moved away.

The short clip was originally uploaded to Reddit, and shows the unidentified couple soaking up breathtaking views from the edge of a rock.
Tempted by the crystal blue water, the woman then decides to try and jump in.
However, she backs out at the last minute and stumbles - leading her to cling to the rockface in fear.
In a final bid to avoid the terrifying drop, the scantily clad brunette spins around and tries to cling onto her boyfriend for safety.
But the blonde male is quick to react and swiftly moves his leg out the way, so as not to be dragged down with his female companion.
Realising what he's done, the man then pulls himself up and watches as his girlfriend falls out of view.

The short video has already divided the internet, since it was posted online last week.
Some Reddit users blamed the woman for 'chickening out' before the jump.
One commenter said: 'Soooo dangerous. You gotta commit to the jump.'

And another added: 'You've got to stupid to jump, and a special kind of stupid to change your mind half way [sic].'
However, others criticised the man for not helping, as they observed: 'He took the leg away, so he wouldn't get pulled with her and so gave her the worst fall possible.'

It is currently unknown what happened to the woman following her fall.
