‘I was totally overwhelmed by it all…. all I wanted to do was sit in a dark room with a cup of tea’ Sam Bailey on her runaway X Factor win

By Hanna Flint
If Sam Bailey was tired after a night celebrating her X Factor victory, she didn't show it on Monday morning.
The  singer arrived at the ITV studios with a smile on her face, still slightly stunned from her win in the TV singing competition.
But composing herself for a flurry of media interviews Sam, 36, said to Daybreak that all she wanted to do 'was find a kettle' to make a brew to settle her nerves and excitement.

‘I was totally overwhelmed by it all…. all I wanted to do was sit in a dark room with a cup of tea’, Sam told Aled Jones and Lorraine Kelly on the early morning show.
She also wanted to thank her co-workers and boss, for giving her the chance to enter the show and credit years of slogging around the club circuit for honing her powerhouse vocals.

'I think what people don't realise is when you're singing in social clubs you're not just singing for two minutes, you're singing for sometimes two and a half hours,' the Leicester-born singer said.
'You're singing non-stop and I think when you do that you get so used to it you learn how to save your voice.'
And earlier she told Daybreak: 'I'm going to officially go in and speak to the governor of the prison and thank him and thank everyone in the Prison Service for their support.'
'I wouldn't have been able to do this if they hadn't given me the days off when I needed to audition.'

It seems that Sam was always going to be the eventual winner, as she led the voting from the start of the live shows according to new figures.
The 36-year-old finished in the top two every week over the past three months, and of the 14 public votes which have been detailed, she triumphed in 10, with the other four dominated by 17-year-old Nicholas McDonald, who finished runner-up in the contest last night.
In last night's climax to the series, Bailey took more than half of the votes (53.4%), while McDonald pulled in 36.3% and Friend trailed on 10.3%.
As part of her prize for winning this year's show, the mother-of-two will be supporting Beyoncé on her Mrs Carter tour during one of her UK dates next year, as well as landing a six-figure record deal.
Talking about Queen B's high-octane choreography on Lorraine, Sam said: 'I can't dance, but I could do the Running Man'.
Bailey also recalled the moment she saw her mentor Sharon Osbourne and Nicole Scherzinger's emotional reaction to her performance of Frankie Goes To Hollywood's Power Of Love, Sam said to Lorraine: 'I was singing and all of the sudden I felt like someone clothes-lined me.
'It feels really bizarre. It's like I'm living in a parallel universe.'

But she couldn't forget her late father Ronnie, who she believes was watching over her throughout the show.
'I believe my dad is helping me out and looking over me,' Sam told the Daily Mirror. 'I don’t think I would have got this far without him. All this is for him. I can’t believe this, it is a dream come true.
And the former prison warden talked about her happiness that she was in the final with Nicholas McDonald: 'Me and Nicky were really close, that was the two people who should have been in that final. No matter what happens I feel like I've won already.'

I don't like looking at it,' Bailey remarked about her appearance in the video clip. 'I was very self conscious. Only when I sang did I get confident. But even now, I'm still me at the end of the day.
Her winner's song, Skyscraper by Demi Lovato has already reached no. 1 on the UK iTunes chart, which she performed Sunday night in a floor length black sequinned dress, at Wembley arena.

Sam added some sparkle to her morning in a sequinned top, worn with black jeans boots and winter coat, proving how far she's come since she first introduced herself as the singing prison warden.
On Sunday night, Gary Barlow said of her performance: 'You've stolen the hearts of the nation. You've done this on behalf of people whose dreams have stayed dreams.'
A extremely teary Nicole added: 'You got me looking like a hot mess, the first time I saw you you brought tears to my eyes, and you've done it again with your last performance. That voice is a gift from God and you are the voice. Timing is everything and this is your time right now.'
Louis Walsh said: 'You deserve to be on that stage, that's going to be number one record - stop crying.'

Lost for words, a blubbering Mrs O, could not even muster up a few words, which led presenter Dermot O'Leary to say: 'That says it all.'
An equally emotional Sam told Dermot: 'In the time that I've bee in this competition I've grown not only as a person but in my music.
'There's one person that's been so inspirational and that's Sharon Osbourne and I love her to pieces.'

Nicholas put up a good fight, with his winner's song, Superman by Five For Fighting, but unfortunately it was not enough to earn him the crown.

'But it's going to be a memorable night tonight - I'm going to sing with my lifelong hero Elton John. I love the show and I love being on this panel.'

All the X Factor 2013 contestants returned to the stage to kick off the show by performing Roar by Katy Perry.

The boys go back on tour in April, starting with South America and then back to Wembley Stadium in May.
There was even a bit of drama on the night when longest-serving judge, Louis Walsh was not going to let the show pass by without a dig at Nicole Scherzinger, who completely stole the limelight from duet partner Sam Bailey on the show.

When asked by Dermot about what he thought of the duets, Louis said: 'The highlight was Nicholas and Shane because he let him sing, unlike some people - Nicole!'
Sharon added that her highlight of the evening was also Sam's duet with Nicole.
Gary Barlow agreed and added: 'Absoltuely I thought it was mesmerising.'
Nicole was not phased by the comment from Louis, and took it all in her stride simple adding: 'I love my x factor family'.
'Oh my gosh, sharing the stage with Sam and being up here with my X Factor family. I am going to miss you guys.'

Sam's choice of song for the evening was The Power of Love, by Jennifer Rush, reminds her of family love because it was her mum's favourite song.
Appearing in a red lace dress, that looked incredibly similar to her mentor's Sharon, she owned the performance with no one but herself on stage.
Gary said: 'I know this is your song of the series, for me you could have sung any song because every single performance has been amazing just listen to the roar in Wembley.
'Anyone at home whose assuming you've won the show, please pick up the phone and vote for Sam Bailey.'

But she failed to impress television viewers with her performance on The X Factor live final at London's Wembley Arena on Sunday night.
The 29-year-old singer well and truly lit up the stage in a grand finale that was distinctly lacking glamour, as she plunged down from the ceiling of the iconic venue in a giant cage.

Surrounded by a troupe of dancers, the pop megastar showcased her incredible figure in a skimpy ensemble that saw her dressed as a winged gold bird as she belted out her smash hit, Unbreakable.
Strutting her stuff in merely a skimpy gold bejewelled bustier with dramatic feather detail at the shoulders, the star adorned her raven locks with a Grecian-inspired gold leaf headband.
Katy completed her striking winged and feather enemble with a pair of racy fishnet stockings and skyscraper heels, and injected a bolt of colour to her perfect porcelain skin with a slick of vampy berry lipstick.

Appearing on stage with his 'lifelong hero' Elton John, Mr Barlow waved goodbye to ITV show after three years of being head judge.
The pair  performed Face to Face and accompanied by an army of marching band dancers in matching white uniforms.
Meanwhile, the ratings for Saturday night's X Factor were the worst since the show's launch in 2004.
The average audience was just 8.5million, including viewers on the catch-up +1 channel, a million lower than last year.
The only time the ratings were worse was when 8.1million saw Steve Brookstein win the show nine years ago.
The show was beaten by Strictly Come Dancing, which pulled an average of 9.9million viewers.
