Katy Perry sparked rumours of an engagement to boyfriend John Mayer, when she appeared on the MTV EMAs red carpet sporting a sparkly diamond ring on her ring finger.
The 29-year-old star, who has been dating the 36-year-old guitarist for almost two years, wore the ring along with a rather demure mint green Zac Posen frock at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam.
But the star did not make a show of her finger accessory, and even took it off later in the evening when she picked up her Best Female Act award on Sunday evening.

Teaming her frock with a vintage Dolce and Gabbana headband she bought in Tokyo, Chanel earrings and dusky pink Charlotte Olympia shoes, the Roar singer has yet to make any comment on her choice of jewellery, however a source told E! News last week that an engagement is 'inevitable.'The source said that the singers' friends and families think they make a great couple and added: 'Everyone wants them to get engaged. They are so perfect together.'
Katy hit the EMA stage where she performed her brand new single Unconditionally, and stripped off to reveal a bejeweled bodysuit - again not wearing the ring.

Earlier the California-born beauty took to Twitter to inform her followers on what kind of performance to expect on the evening.Katy wrote: 'For tonight's performance of UNCONDITIONALLY on @mtvema I will be letting the LIGHT in& then making you SHINE! #dontneedtobehighforthis.'
Perry, who was up for two awards on the night, Best Female Act and Best Pop Act, recently opening up about her relationship, and told the November issue of W magazine: 'I actually am dating my crush. I had a crush on him for a long time, and it just so happens we fit together great.'

She said: 'I really loved it. It was a new, fun, exciting journey,'
'But I like how I am now, and I think all things happen for a reason.'

'A lot of girls that I love to hang out with are here, like Rita Ora and Iggy Azalea and Ellie Goulding.
'I like those girls and we're gonna hang out and have a couple of glasses of champers.'
A spokesperson for Katy Perry has been contacted by the Mail Online for comment.
