Rebuff ... the Queen visiting the BBC yesterday
THE Queen yesterday put on a brave face as Prince Philip had a stomach operation by insisting: “He’s not ill”.
Veteran radio presenter John Humphrys asked about her husband as she visited the BBC. She responded: “I’ve no idea, he’s only just gone in.”Radio 4’s Humphrys, 69, added: “He looked on awfully good form yesterday,” and she replied: “Did he? That’s because he’s not ill.”
Last night Prince Philip, 91, was recovering after the exploratory op on his abdomen at the private London Clinic in Harley Street.
Buckingham Palace said he was “progressing satisfactorily”. The Queen’s physician Dr John Cunningham was seen smiling as he left the hospital at 5.30pm.
A royal source said the Queen was concerned and being kept informed, but would spend the weekend privately at Windsor rather than visiting her husband.
Philip was admitted on Thursday night after earlier joking with guests at a Buckingham Palace garden party.
