New witness twist in Blade Runner murder probe
Questioned ... Erin Stear gave sworn statement
A BEAUTIFUL blonde socialite has been quizzed by detectives over her relationship with Blade Runner murder accused Oscar Pistorius.
Erin Stear, 25, gave a statement under oath to police who questioned her about her meetings and flirty text exchanges with Pistorius, 26.
The London 2012 Paralympic star is on bail accused of murdering model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, 29, at his home in South Africa. He says he shot her after mistaking her for an intruder and has told of his “deep love” for his girlfriend.
But detectives are investigating claims that he canoodled with Erin at a party in Cape Town and met up with her behind Reeva’s back.
A source said: “Erin met Oscar when Reeva was his girlfriend. They hit it off and met up again after messaging each other. She was really excited about getting to know him.
“They saw each other a few times in the weeks before the shooting but Erin’s been in a state since Reeva was killed. She can’t believe Oscar could ever deliberately kill anyone.
“Erin knew word was out about their relationship and has been expecting police to knock on her door for weeks.”
It is believed Erin denied having an affair with Pistorius, although her sworn affidavit will now become part of the murder investigation.
Erin, a junior PR executive, has posted a series of tweets in support of Pistorius. Hours after his arrest she wrote: “People point fingers too quickly.” As he faced a series of tense bail hearings, her messages included “Fingers crossed this morning” and “Well done defense, you’re nailing this”.
Capt Mike Van Aardt, lead detective on the murder case, declined to comment.
Erin refused to speak about her relationship with Pistorius. Her mum Sylvia insisted: “They were just friends.”
Star won't race
OSCAR Pistorius will not race again this year, his agent confirmed last night.
Organisers have invited the London 2012 gold medallist to compete at events but he is “not mentally ready,” said Peet van Zyl.
Pistorius had his bail conditions relaxed to allow him to compete overseas, but will now definitely miss this summer’s Paralympic and able-bodied World Championships. Van Zyl said: “It’s his decision.”
