Aston Villa 1 Chelsea

BOBBY DAZZLER ... Frank Lampard breaks Bobby Tambling's goal record and seals a 2-1 win for Chelsea

TWO-GOAL Frank Lampard broke Bobby Tambling’s goal record to deliver Champions League football to Chelsea.

The Blues were in big trouble when Ramires was sent off following Christian Benteke’s first-half opener.
But that all changed when Benteke himself was dismissed — and Lampard struck a brilliant 61st-minute leveller.

That effort drew Lamps level with Tambling on 202 goals for the West London club.
And the England legend fired a dramatic 87th-minute winner to go top of the club’s all-time scoring charts.
It means Chelsea are six points ahead of fifth-placed Spurs.

But even though their London rivals have two games to play, their goal difference means the Blues are virtually guaranteed a top-four finish.
Emotions were running high at Villa Park following Stiliyan Petrov’s retirement this week.
Club skipper Petrov, who is in remission after suffering from leukemia, led out the sides before kick-off.

And his appearance steeled Villa into action — with the hosts taking the lead after just 14 minutes.
Benteke picked the ball up outside Chelsea’s box, charged round Gary Cahill and rifled past Petr Cech.
A minute later Ramires went into the book for a nasty lunge on Benteke.

Chelsea looked to hit back and Lampard’s 30-yard free-kick dribbled against the post after Brad Guzan’s awkward save.
But disaster struck for the Blues when Ramires picked up his second yellow for a high foot on Gabby Agbonlahor just before the break.
Villa had a few half-chances after the interval but first Andreas Wiemann and then Yacouba Sylla fluffed their lines.

Their hopes took a huge dent on the hour when Benteke collected his second yellow for clattering John Terry.
And Villa were made to pay almost instantly when Lampard drew Chelsea level.
The England legend drove into space and crashed a left-footed shot past Guzan from the edge of the box.

It was a brilliant strike from Lamps — and worthy of the goal that brought him level with then-leading scorer Tambling.
Villa somehow kept Chelsea at bay on 71 minutes when Cahill drove towards goal and Sylla desperately hacked off the line.
Cahill was certain it crossed into the goal and was also convinced his shot was deflected off Nathan Baker’s hand.

The scramble went on and Ashley Westwood then booted Ba’s shot clear — after the Blues striker shot from aYARD out.
Two minutes later, Terry was carried off on a stretcher after taking a tumble.
But Chelsea regrouped and found a thrilling late winner.
Lampard tucked home from close range after Eden Hazard’s good work to send the away fans wild.
